Operation
First Firing
Upon completing the gas line connection, a small
amount of air will be trapped in the line. When first
lighting the unit with pilot light, it will take a few minutes
to purge the trapped air. Once purging is complete, the
pilot and burner will light and operate as indicated in the
instruction manual. Subsequent lightings of the appli-
ance will not require purging.
Yellow Tip
Blue
LG150
Fig. 12 Correct log flame appearance.
When lit for the first time, the appliance will emit a slight
odor for an hour or two. This is due to paint and lubri-
cants used in the manufacturing process. After each
lighting, vapor may condense and fog the glass; this
moisture disappears within a few minutes of burning.
When Used as a Heating Appliance
This appliance is equipped with a modulating valve
which controls the main burner by a thermostat. As the
room temperature increases, the flame will automati-
cally lower itself according to the control knob setting.
Flame Adjustment
The thermostatic bulb is located under the log set. If the
main burner flame modulates down to a lower level
while the control knob is at a higher setting, the bulb
may need to be located outside the fireplace.
Flame adjustment is accomplished by rotating the Hi/Lo
adjustment knob located near the center of the gas
control. (Fig. 10)
It is important to periodically perform a
visual check of the pilot and the burner
flames. (Figures 11 and 12)
The SIT 'T' series valve operates from the full clockwise
'LOW' position to the full counterclockwise
'HIGH' position. (Refer to Page 3 for BTU rates.)
Piezo Ignitor
When used as an unvented heater, maximum benefit
will result when the fireplace flue damper is fully closed.
NOTE: For your safety, the appliance is equipped with
an oxygen depletion sensor. This device senses the
level of oxygen in the atmosphere and switches off the
gas supply in case the level of oxygen falls below a
safe level.
LO
The appliance may be used as a heating appliance only
if unvented heating appliances are permitted by local,
state, and city codes. In locations that do not allow
unvented heaters, the chimney must have a permanent
chimney opening of not less than 29 square inches.

Maintenance
Keep the control compartment, logs and burner area
surrounding the logs clean by vacuuming or brushing at
least twice a year. THE LOGS CAN GET VERY HOT
HANDLE ONLY WHEN COOL.
Most of these components may require only an occa-
sional checkup and cleaning and some may require
adjustment. If repair is necessary, it should be per-
formed by a qualified technician.
Always turn off gas to the pilot before cleaning. For
relighting, refer to lighting instructions located on the
front cover plate.
In order to properly clean the burner and pilot assembly,
turn off the gas to the unit, remove the logs exposing
the burner and pilot assembly. Clean all foreign materi-
als from the top of the burner. Check to make sure that
burner parts are clean. Visually inspect pilot. Brush or
blow away any dust or lint accumulation If pilot orifice is
plugged, disassembly may be required to remove any
foreign material from the orifice or tubing.
Never obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation
air. Keep the front of the heater clear of all obstacles
and materials.
Leave at least 36" clearance from front of heater to
combustibles.
To obtain proper operation, it is imperative that the pilot
and burner's flame characteristics are steady, not lifting
or floating.
Cleaning the Standing Pilot
Control System
Typically, the top 1/8" of the thermopile should be
engulfed in the pilot flame. (Fig. 10, Page 7)
The burner and control system consists of:
• main burner
• gas orifice
• pilot burner
• thermopile
The air shutter is set at the factory, no adjustment
should be necessary.
